About Us
The Plainfield Township Highway Department is responsible for approximately 50 miles of roadway, bordered to the north by 135th St. , on the south by Theodore St. , on the east by Gaylord Rd. , and on the west by County Line Rd. Not all roads in the township are under the township jurisdiction. This makes it very confusing for residents trying to get information and service. If you have any questions please call us at 815.436.6090 and we will handle or answer your questions or direct you to the state, county, local city or village whose jurisdiction it is.

Programs
Our branch pick-up program is a big success. As a reminder, we pick-up tree branches the first full week of each month starting in April and ending in October. We ask that the limbs are cut into lengths no longer than four (4) feet and no greater in diameter than eight (8) inches. The smaller branches should be bundled. We do not pick-up leaves, yard waste or rake up yards.

This past year (2006) brought quite a few road improvements. We cracked sealed about 75,000 linear feet of roadway and overlayed about 3 ½ miles of township roads. We also rebuilt an area of Lewood Drive , and the intersection of County Line Road and Renwick Road . 2006 brought some relief on a couple of long standing water problems in the area. Parts of Von Esch Road , Byrum Blvd. and Lockner St. were reditched and Farmingdale Street residents should be happy by mid November. With plans for more next year.

Seasonal
Winter is upon us, with that in mind PLEASE be careful driving. Keep a blanket and flashlight in your vehicle and a cell phone on you when ever traveling. Leave a little earlier, drive a little slower, don't follow other vehicles too close and be a little patient with your Highway Crews. They are trying to make it safe and sound for all of us.

Helpful Hints

• Try not to park on streets during Snow Storms
  
• Shovel driveway ends after streets have been plowed
  
• Facing your home, pile snow to the left of you driveway
  
• If you get stuck, stay with your vehicle and keep the exhaust pipe clear.
