Senior Services

Our mission is to bring awareness to the community and enhance the self-sufficiency and quality of life for the disabled citizens residing within the jurisdiction of Plainfield Township.

The committee will strive to develop productive programs as well as cooperate with any appropriate public or private entity of the development and administration of such programs, which will aid in the enrichment and self-sufficiency of the disabled community.

Fitness For Seniors

Shape-up the fun way! This class is designed especially for seniors. Cardiovascular exercise, strength, and stretching are the focus. All physical levels are welcome. This program is cosponsored by Plainfield Park District and Provena St. Joseph Medical Center. Instructor: Debbie Stapleton KW

Medical Loan Closet

Plainfield Township has different medical aids available for residents of Plainfield Township. There are walkers, wheel chairs, crutches, commodes, and shower chairs available to residents who are in need of these items. Items are free of charge and loaned out for up to six months. To borrow something, call Plainfield Township at (815) 436-8308. Some items may not be available at all times.KW

"Senior News" Newsletter

The "Senior News" is a bi-monthly newsletter mailed to senior citizens that are currently on the mailing list. The "Senior News" advertises all programs, services and activities geared toward senior citizens which are offered by Plainfield Township and the Plainfield Park District. If you do not currently receive the newsletter and would like to be put on the mailing list, call (815)439-7943.KW

TRIAD

Triad is a group of seniors along with representative from the Will County Sheriff's Department and local law enforcement agencies which meet to plan and promote senior safety issues for the community. Once a month, the triad committee meets and different informational topics are planned and discussed. Everyone is welcome to participate. Please call (815)439-7943.KW

Pot Luck Luncheon

Pot Luck Lunch is served the third Tuesday of each month! Make a favorite dish to pass and share it with others. Lunch is served at 11:15 am at the River Edge Recreation Center. After lunch, join us for Game Days! KW

Card Day / Social Bridge

Every Wednesday afternoon is card day at River Edge. Currently we have bridge and pinochle players. If you would like to play come and join us. Play begins at approximately noon. For more information call the River Edge Recreation Center at (815)439-7943. KW

Game Day Tuesdays

Play a favorite game or learn a new one, including rummy cube, pinochle, pony tail and more, on Tuesday afternoons. Game day begins at 11:30 am and you can play until 3 pm. Bring a sack lunch and have some fun at River Edge Recreation Center! KW

Become more familiar with road signs, test questions, new laws, and gain the confidence needed to pass your driver's exam. Rules of the Road is sponsored by the Secretary of State. KW

Internet Access Class for Adults

This series of four classes is to acquaint the student with accessing and using the Internet. The first part of the class some discussion of computer fundamentals and since sending emails requires some typing; a brief introduction to Microsoft word will be covered. The last half of the course will involve accessing the Internet, setting up an email address, sending and receiving emails, browsing the Internet and using the Microsoft Outlook program. KW

Yoga

Yoga enhances flexibility, strengthens muscles, and offers a new outlook on life. This class is designed to ease mature adults into a discipline that will help refresh their bodies and minds. Instructor Melissa Walter-Hart is a registered and certified yoga instructor with more than 18 years of teaching experience. Participants should bring a yoga mat and refrain from eating at least two hours before class. KW

Income Tax Assistance

With new opportunities in self-medication, however, come new responsibilities and a need for knowledge. Heart Healthy Living

Learn heart healthy foods from Edward Dietitian Nancy Rodriguez RD, LDN. You will learn how to decrease sodium, fat and cholesterol in meal planning. Learn quick tips for lowering triglycerides and reducing heart disease risk and be able to choose heart healthy foods from all food groups. You can achieve Heart Healthy Living.
