Financial Assistance

Applications for General Assistance and Emergency Assistance are required by law and for those residents living within the Plainfield Township boundaries. (Click here to verify residency within Plainfield Township.)

General Assistance

Financial aid may be provided to qualified recipients in accordance with guidelines established for Plainfield Township and the State of Illinois to meet the basic needs of individuals residing within the township boundaries. The aid is to meet basic maintenance needs such as: rent, utility or food assistance on a monthly basis to recipient. In order to determine eligibility, a person must meet the financial and non-financial requirements and have no other potential means of income. General Assistance is limited to those who do not qualify for other types of state or federally funded assistance.

Emergency Assistance

Financial aid may be provided to qualified recipients to alleviate a life-threatening circumstance or meet basic needs such as food, rent, utilities, etc. once in a 24-month period to Township residents who meet the eligibility requirements, with a lifetime maximum of five (5) times.

Salvation Army Service Extension Program

The Salvation Army Service Extension Program provides emergency assistance to residents across 200 suburban communities in the Chicago metropolitan area, including the counties of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, and Will. The goal is to provide supportive assistance to people during crisis situations and to identify other community resources, which may provide additional help. Emphasis is placed on meeting an immediate need (short-term solution) and building an individual’s capacity to solve problems (long-term solution). This service is open to Plainfield residents.

Nicor Sharing

The Salvation Army offers 3 programs in cooperation with Nicor Gas: The Regular Share Program, the Crisis Program, and the Disabled Veterans Programs. (Click here for details.)
